Backflow Installation & Testing
When you turn on water you are accustomed to getting water from your tap, shower or faucet. People don’t often think about how the water gets there unless it doesn’t get there at all. An important part of your plumbing system, your backflow device, also known as a BPD (Backflow Prevention Device), is installed to ensure that your drinking water and city water remains free of contaminants which would pass without the existence of pressure during the construction of your plumbing system.
The backflow device or BPD is essential to maintaining the pressure required to keep your potable water supplies from flowing into contamination or pollution. The installation of a backflow device generally happens during the construction of a plumbing system, or in some cases during the renovation or addition to an existing plumbing system.
Why is Backflow Testing Important?
The undesirable mixing of drinking water with contaminated water could potentially occur if a BPD is malfunctioning or not installed. This could ultimately result in the contamination of drinking water for a larger population outside of your home. Having your BPD tested periodically can reduce the potential for a very serious problem.
